National IRS Forums Feature Marty Davidoff, Local CPA, as Speaker/Panelist Sessions focus on practitioner misconduct and complex tax laws
(Dayton, NJ – August 12, 2006) ~ Local CPA, E. Martin Davidoff was individually selected to be a speaker at the IRS Nationwide 2006 Tax Forums held during the summer in six major cities across the country.
Thousands of tax practitioners attend the forums to hear IRS officials and other experts discuss tax law changes, IRS policies and procedures, electronic tax filing, and new ideas for helping clients comply with federal tax regulations. The forums also offer the coveted Practitioner Case Resolution opportunities, where IRS representatives with specialized expertise meet one-on-one with tax professionals to discuss their tax case or issue.
Davidoff was asked to participate in the forums in Anaheim, Chicago, Atlanta and New York. He presents two one-hour sessions on the “Internal Revenue Code Section 179 Deduction.” Section 179 allows taxpayers the choice to deduct all or part of the cost of certain qualifying property in the year it is placed in service. His seminar addresses some of the most common planning and tax preparation issues that tax professionals face when dealing with this complex provision of the tax code.
The American Association of Attorney-Certified Public Accountants is a forum partner and the sponsor of the “Section 179” session. As founder/chairperson of the Association’s IRS Tax Liaison Committee, Davidoff bears a wealth of knowledge about IRS operations, procedures and personnel. With his background and resources, the association selected him as their ideal representative to participate as a speaker and panelist.
“The forums were an outstanding opportunity for AAA-CPA to partner with IRS since so many of our members deal directly with the topics presented,” Davidoff said. “I enjoy the challenge of presenting a topic to thousands of people across the country. The sessions have been quite rewarding and I have learned so much more by speaking and answering questions about the topic.” According to the IRS, evaluations for Davidoff’s presentation are “extremely high.” In prior presentations, comments about Davidoff by attendees included, “exceptionally well done” and “the best of the bunch.”
In addition to his solo presentations at the forums, Davidoff participates in a panel discussion about appropriate practitioner conduct. Entitled “IRS Circular 230,” the session addresses the concerns of the IRS Office of Professional Responsibility with respect to the appropriate conduct of tax professionals, and features input from various professional organizations. Topics include conflicts of interest, standards of due diligence and the interplay between a practitioner’s obligation to the client and tax administration. Davidoff recently testified on proposed changes to Circular 230 before the IRS, specifically opposing changes which would prohibit contingency fees in most areas of tax practice.
Davidoff is licensed as a CPA and a tax attorney. His firm, E.
