Accountant seeks to up supplies at food pantry
SOUTH BRUNSWICK — A local businessman is trying to help replenish the township food pantry’s dwindling supplies.
"It is important that we all chip in," Dayton accountant E. Martin Davidoff said in a press release Tuesday.
Davidoff, of E. Martin Davidoff & Associates in Dayton, said in the release that he decided to take an active roll in helping the food pantry after reading a published report several months before that the shelves were going bare.
His firm is sponsoring a food drive to bring up the inventory of the pantry.
According to officials, the pantry serves residents who do not have enough food to eat.
On Saturday, 30-40 South Brunswick high School graduates are scheduled to distribute 1,500-2,000 bags to residents for food donations. The students are scheduled to pick the bags up from in front of the homes the next week.
The students will be visiting residents in the Dayton, Deans and Monmouth Junction sections of the township for the food drive.
The project is being run by recent high school graduate Kalpana Sampale who will be attending Duke University, Durham, N.C., this fall.
Davidoff and other cosponsors, like Dunkin’ Donuts of Dayton and Stop & Shop, are working to move the drive forward, according to the release.
Residents who do not get a bag for donations can bring their food directly to the pantry, which is located in the senior center on Route 522.
The pantry is open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
People wishing to donate may also call the pantry at (732) 329-4000, ext. 677, for more information.
